Poetry

My wisdom is my gift

My son, as you go your own way,
Remember all that you've been told,
The words and life I've shared with you
Will serve you well as you grow old.

Those days that we played away together
May stay in the back of your mind,
But recall, my son, don't forget your upbringing,
Don't leave my teachings behind.

Some day, you will need the right words
To give to your own child, words of truth
That will serve them well in good times and bad,
In the conflicts of adulthood or youth.

I leave you with all my wisdom, son,
To do with as you may wish,
I haven't just given you food to eat,
I've taught you how to fish.
